Is the song Compensation about the Bush administration. Kind of knowing the political views of the band it seems to tie in pretty perfectly.

I'm pretty sure compensation is about extra terrestrials landing here on earth (see "Galactic Pioneers"), and how when they did we were too young to deal with "all that stress"
and such. And how they should re-appear to make things all better and such.

Air guitar is always a good finishing move.

I think it's a letter to god.
About the effects of religion in general.

See Galactic Pioneers.

Religion was the other angle I was thinking of, but maybe I was just looking for the politics in it.

Well, seeing as I don't have the new album yet, then I guess you're not exactly the only one. I've listened to the whole thing on Fuzz though. Very fun.

Sure reviving a topic that hasn't had anything said in it for a good while, but I thought I'd make my comments on the CD now that I've listened to it extensively.

My thought:
The only song I can't really get into was All Go for Launch. The first time I heard it, I thought it sounded really cool, building up to something awesome, but it's like an escalator to nowhere; it builds up and up and then just stops and you're right back where you started. All they do in the song is spell the name of the band like some kind of intergalactic spelling bee and the judges can't hear them so they repeat it. Kinda defeats the name of the song. I thought it would be about preparing for a launch into space. It builds up and gets ready like a good space launch, but then it stops right there. Were the song representative of the launching of a rocket or shuttle, it would be a disaster, like it gets a few yards off the ground and suddenly the thrusters fail.
To be clear, it's really an all-out bad song, it just could have been better. A lot better.

It's very fortunate that Man Alone picks up the slack from there, and the rest of the album is very consistently awesome. Man Alone is great fun to listen to while driving, and fun to sing to. My only gripe is that the lyrics are rather repetitive, but otherwise a good song.

My two big favorites are Cyborg and Make a Circuit with Me. They're just awesome songs. I hope the Phenomenauts decide to do more rockabilly-inspired songs in the future.

At first I didn't quite appreciate the album entirely. I liked the songs for their own merit, but as =P= songs I didn't quite 'get' them, but the more I listened to them the more I accepted them as part of the evolving style of the band. I was expecting more of the rockabillyish themes like in the previous albums, rather than a more punky, new wavy feel, and was slightly put-off. Now though, I've convinced myself that an evolving style is all for the better, and if a band doesn't experiment with their style they'll go stale and all their songs will sound the same, which can really kill one's interest in an otherwise great band. Though too much change can alienate fans. I remember my sister liked Silverchair, and they used to be rather good until one of their albums suddenly changed to some pop-style and then started sucking hard because of it.

so tl;dr I love the whole album except All Go for Launch, and didn't appreciate it fully as the Phenomenauts until I put more thought into it.

i love the rocket case.
it is amazing.

i think their cover of Make a circuit would make the Polecats proud, and Cyborg was equally as amazing.
